Over the past years, Huawei managed to make a name for themselves as one of the most reputed smartphone manufacturer in the world, by releasing premium devices, with high-end specs, available at a lower price than many competitors. And here we are, in 2017, looking forward to seeing the Chinese company’s next flagship, the Huawei P10, making its debut!
On January 11, the invites were sent and we already know that the handset will be officially unveiled on February 26, at the Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona, alongside a new wearable, the Huawei Watch 2.
According to the latest rumors, it’s going to be an absolutely impressive device! However, we guess that you guys want to hear more about this handset, right? Let’s break it down and see what Huawei has been working on lately…
A couple of images with a smartphone presumed to be the Huawei P10 have been spotted on Chinese social network Weibo, revealing a flat solid metal unibody design, as well as a dual camera setup on the back, similar to the one seen on the P9.
The camera sensors and the flash are positioned at the top of the phone, within the antenna band, and, surprisingly, there’s no sign of the Leica branding this time, even though Huawei worked with the German company at the development of the camera.
On the other side, another leaked image with the back of the phone, also spotted on Weibo, was showing the Leica branding, so we really don’t know what to say. Guess that we’re going to find the answer soon…
Another aspect about which we’re not sure is the position of the fingerprint scanner. A first leaked image with the Huawei P10 was suggesting a move to the front, under the physical home, instead of being placed on the back. And honestly, we’re convinced that it’s going to stay there, since a set of images provided by infamous Twitter-based leakster Evan Blass, which were showing the P10 in three colors, like Gold, Blue and Green, were also showcasing a handset with no fingerprint scanner on the back.
On the other side, a separate image from Weibo, republished by quite a few Tech websites, contradicts the previous rumors. To be more specific, it was showing a physical button on the front, as well as a circular fingerprint sensor on the rear and a curved body. Could this mean this there may be two different versions of the P10? Well, this could be one of the differences between this model and the P10 Plus, but only time can tell…
Next, let’s focus a bit on another important feature of the Huawei P10: the display. A few weeks ago, a leak coming from GFXBench was suggesting that the smartphone could feature a 5.5” screen, with a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.
However, we’re not sure about the accuracy of this source, so we don’t ignore the scenario in which this handset comes with a 5.5” display, rocking the same QHD resolution and a pixel density of 534 ppi. Yeah, we could get used to a 5.5 panel…
We don’t know exactly if the handset will feature a flat or curved display, but once again, the leaks are pointing to two variants, one using a flat panel, as well as a secondary one, with a curved display. Phone Arena, for example, claims that the Huawei P10 and P10 Plus will have the same size, but one of the major differences between the two is exactly the…well, shape of the display.
Like every year, we know pretty much everything about what flagships are going to feature under the hood and the P10 is no exception. To be more specific, Huawei’s flagship will arrive with a Kirin 960 chip, with eight cores clocked at 2.3 Ghz, alongside 6GB of RAM. Basically, this is twice the amount of power last year’s flagship, the Huawei P9, had. Pretty awesome, huh?
Moving on, it seems that the handset could follow Apple in terms of internal storage and rock 256 gigs of space, which is more than enough for pretty much any user out there.
However, we could see a few more variants of the Huawei P10, with different amounts of RAM and storage, as it follows: 4GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, as well as 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
Finally, we don’t know anything about the battery size, but, most likely, it will be a bit bigger than the P9’s 3000mAh power pack.
Ok, so we know that we’re going to see a dual camera setup, but more details about this are required, right? Right.
IT seems that the Huawei P10 will have a 12MP RGB sensor on the back, coupled with a 20MP monochrome one, offering a high-end photography experience. Oh, and we’re also looking forward to optical image stabilization, because it wouldn’t make sense to have such an impressive setup without this feature!
As for the selfie department, it seems that it will be represented by an 8 MP snapper, same as the one P9.
Last but not least, let’s focus a bit on the operating system. As you probably guessed, it’s going to be Android 7.0 Nougat, but customized with the manufacturer’s EMUI 5.0 skin, previously seen on the Huawei Mate 9.
Overall, the software experience will be similar to the one on Huawei’s phablet, but we’re looking forward to hearing a bit more about some extra features during the launch event.
And this wraps it up! There are just a few days left until the Huawei P10 will make its official debut, so we’re incredibly curious to see if it will have what it takes to compete with the like of Samsung Galaxy S8, LG G6 or any other high-end smartphones, expected to be unveiled in the next months!
