If youre looking forward to picking a high-end Android smartphone right now, you have three options: Samsung S7, HTC ONE M10 or LG G5. Were not saying that other brands don’t have excellent devices in their portfolio, but these three manufacturers are simply the best.
Now, Samsungs flagship, the Galaxy S7, is by far the most popular choice, but there are a lot of people who want to try something different, so they must choose between the HTC 10 and the LG G5. Pretty hard decision, wed say, considering that both devices are offering a similar spec sheet, but were here to help!
If you’re in this situation yourself, we’ve put together a short guide, comparing the HTC 10 and LG G5, inorder to make things easier for you!
The battle of the titans, HTC ONE M10 vs LG G5
We must admit that this is one of the most important aspects were considering when choosing a new phone, so we decided to start with it.
The HTC 10 is made entirely out of metal, featuring chamfered edges on the front and rear. The BoomSound speakers are gone, but it now sports a physical home button, housing the fingerprint scanner, flanked by two capacitive buttons. Overall, its a solid, well-built phone, with a great grip.
Moving on to the LG G5, its also made out of metal, but the main feature is the modular element, allowing you to replace the battery or improve its audio capabilities with an attachment called friends. Still, when compared to the HTC 10, the LG G5 feels a bit cheap, even though its slimmer and lighter. The fingerprint scanner isnt missing either, but its placed conveniently on the back, under the dual-camera setup.
From this point of view, there arent many big differences. The HTC 10 comes with a 5.2” Super LCD 5 display, with a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, resulting a density of 565 ppi. On the other side, the LG G5 is a bit bigger, measuring 5.3 inches and sporting the same QHD resolution. Like expected, the density is a bit smaller, of just 554 ppi.
Generally, speaking, you wont notice big visual differences when comparing the phones.
One of the biggest issues of last years One M9 was the camera. Fortunately, HTC managed to fix this, by loading the 10 with a 12 MP UltraPixel sensor, f/1.8 aperture, optical image stabilization, laser autofocus and a dual tone LED flash. On the front, it has a 5 MP sensor, with the same features: autofocus, flash and OIS, a premiere for front-facing cameras.
LG opted for a different approach, equipping the G5 with a dual setup: a 16 MP sensor and a 135-degree, wide-angle, 8 MP one. Obviously, the second sensor is the most interesting, as its able to offer a field of view closer to what the human eye can capture. The camera setup also has laser autofocus,
optical image stabilization and an LED flash. Theres no doubt that when it comes to photography abilities, the LG G5 is the best choice, since it takes very good photos, no matter the conditions.
Like mentioned above, the phones are relatively similar from this point of view. The HTC 10 is powered by Qualcomms Snapdragon 820, alongside 4 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of expandable storage, thanks to the presence of the microSD card slot. It has a 3000 mAh battery, USB Type-C and QuickCharge 3.0.
LG G5 is using the same chipset and amount of RAM, while the internal storage can be considered a minus, counting just 32 GB. Still, it also has a microSD card slot, so you can expand this with ease. The battery is also smaller, with a capacity of just 2800mAh, chargeable through QuickCharge 3.0.
Both the HTC 10 and LG G5 are running Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but the overall experience is different, thanks to the custom user interfaces. We prefer the HTC from this point of view, as the Taiwanese manufacturer tried to keep the looks as close as possible to stock Android. As for LG, they decided to remove the app launched, which, in our book is a very big minus.
And this is where our guide comes to an end. Hopefully, we managed to help you decide which one of these two great phones is the best for you, from any point of view! Like always, the comments section is open, so were looking forward to hearing from you guys. Which one would you pick? The HTC 10 or the LG G5?
